Eden Riegel Instagram – My sweet friend Jeffrey Carlson has, incomprehensibly, left us. It seems impossible that someone whose soul and artistry were so vibrantly alive could be gone. His astonishing talent was matched only by his enormous kindness. His arresting physical beauty worthy of remark because of how he wielded it. Intensely watchable and alluring, sometimes discordantly so, if he pleased. He gave voice to troubled searchers, desperate to harmonize their internal disquiet and find belonging. I was fortunate to spend a while in his company and he left a lasting imprint on me, as he did many. I wish so badly I had seen him more. My memory of Jeffrey is of man who was capable of revealing his soul unreservedly. He cared deeply and made his care evident. He readily loved, accepted automatically, invested immediately. He could disarm you with a glance, he was funny, he was silly, he was snarky, he was brave, he was always exploring. He portrayed the first trans character on daytime with dignity and depth, wrapping in loveliness and grace a burning demand to be seen. I love him deeply and feel this loss acutely. That was his gift. To shake those he encountered out of the routine of living and make us experience the sometimes painful, splendid passion of life.
