This is one of my favourite festivals (made an appearance there pre-pando days, singing Dusty Springfield which was frikken awesome) but now I’m THRILLED to be back to pay tribute to the greatest, the baddest, the most beautiful and talented singer of rock, pop, folk, jazz, traditional, operatic and musicals, not to mention CAWNTRY.. was there anything she she couldn’t do? Ella Hooper Instagram – This is truer than ever. I’m feeling such a knotted mix of shame and and anger, disappointment resentment and frankly freaking out, (and I’m a privileged frikken white person who just cares.. it’s not MY life expectancy and infant mortality rates were talking about, so yeah..) but also waiting.. I know there will be many chapters after this. I’m just not sure how to express my sympathy in the meantime for all that worked so hard to try and better Australia in this regard with this referendum. I’m just so, so sorry. I know an Instagram post ain’t gonna do shit to help this week. But I stand with you First Nations people and I grieve and I wait for the next chapter where we figure out how to fix this fkn country and tend to and heal and acknowledge it’s awful bloody colonial roots. Truth telling. One of the key points of Makarrata – The Uluṟu statement from the heart. But What do we do if we can’t even hear it. Won’t even bring it to the big table. Ahh man. I guess we know – even more than we did before – a very ugly truth about our country. Allies, Let’s not go on with our heads up our arses, let’s acknowledge that we are living in and make up a very biased scared racist country. And let’s at least meet that head on.
Ella Hooper Instagram – Happy day of birth to my rock(star), my bro. Jesse Hooper you’re a wonderful man, brother, muso and father! Always following in your footsteps.. more or less. ;) So happy you let me join your band and we’ve had these adventures together. We’ve always tried to accept, nurture and make each other stronger, we’ve really needed the balm of that kind of steadfast familial love in recent years. Mum and Dad would be so proud of the way you’ve handled things. Of who you are. I know they are. I am amazed. And so very grateful for you. I wish many many more happy birthdays for you my messy Jesse, you are one in a mill! Eat some fancy cheese!
