Jessica Oyelowo Instagram – This is a NO SHAME post.
I got super dressed up last night to celebrate my oldest son’s birthday coming up this week. I told him to get off work early so we could take him out for dinner and have a really fun time out together. I found a rooftop bar that allows you to bring your own food so we could sit and listen to the music, enjoy the ambience and all the people while sipping drinks and eat delicious food. Shoulda realized that a rooftop bar that allows you to bring your own food isn’t going to be that special. I don’t get out much. See second slide for the rooftop 😂
I have ADHD. I miss details, my thoughts often don’t add up when I speak them out loud but in my head they make PERFECT SENSE!! I go full speed ahead on harebrained ideas that I never finish and all of these things produce unholy amounts of shame. All ADHDers can relate. Shame is probably the main feeling running around our heads most of the time.
BUT last night we laughed (after a short moment of disappointment). We laughed. David came up with another plan and I took a deep breath and thought of the fun story this will be for Caleb when we tell him. I disallowed the shame to take over and had an excellent time.
I can quote all the scriptures and know all the things, but when you’re in the middle of shame and condemnation it takes an army of strength to remember you’re still loved and you’re not actually stupid! 🥳
