Anti-trans health bans have gone into or stayed in effect in multiple states as conservative courts have ruled in favor of the anti-trans lawmakers who have effectively capitalized on the rhetoric that demonizes our lives, bodies and health care. In this last year, our material realities have been altered in catastrophic ways that will continue to be unraveled over the coming years. We have seen a loss of care in a matter of months that parallels abortion care erosion that took place over decades. In the span of a week, three devastating court rulings have potentially changed the course of trans litigation for years—if not decades. And there is so little awareness of how quickly and dangerously this is playing out. Even in the context of exceedingly conservative courts we are seeing departures from typical practice in favor of harming us and upending our lives. Soon, state legislatures will convene again and further target trans life and as the GOP primaries pick up, we will be situated as either a posturing device for the right to establish their far right credentials or an example of progressivism having gone too far for the center (which include many dems). In liberal enclaves gender binaries will be reinforced and our existence quietly questioned or publicly debated in the manner of the NYT. This is not the time for silence from allies and accomplices. They have trained their attacks on us but make no mistake everyone is imperiled by this. Today feels hopeless but by tomorrow I will be energized. In this fight I will stay focused on our histories of resistance and our indefatigable ability to love and care for each other. Please if you read this post consider this a ten alarm fire.
