Balance beam was my worst event, and It was mostly mental. That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about the mind, and how we think because I know if I went to a sports psychologist, or had Suni Lee’s beam coach, I would’ve been better😂
Looking back at my career, I wish I did a lot of things different. I wish I didn’t come back so fast after the Olympics. I wish I would’ve rested for a full year instead of getting 3 surgeries, screws in my tibia, and foot, and heading right back to a World Championships that next season. 🤦♀️ I had nobody telling me otherwise so I just didn’t know any better.
I haven’t talked about it much, but I completely burnt out after 2013 world championships. I went from training 8 hours a day, to not being able to get out of bed with fatigue. I was having panic attacks everyday because I felt so bad about missing practice. I didn’t know what was wrong with me.
I tried for two years to get healthy, but I’d get back in the gym for a month, and then get sick again. 😔
There were A LOT of layers to what I was going through, and it took about 7 years to get fully through it.
Now I know a lot of my health issues were connected to the abuse that was happening in the sport. My body just decided NO MORE, before I could. It broke my heart to walk away from the sport, but honestly that’s life!
Sometimes the chapter closes before you’re ready, and you still have to jump.
I just want to say… It’s ok to look back, and have regrets. It’s ok to notice where you could’ve done better, and cringe at past decisions lol. That’s just part of growing up. We do better when we know better.
It’s how well we absorb those lessons, forgive what we didn’t know, and implement them moving forward that really matters. Even if you feel lost, stuck, or like things will never get better — Do not give up on yourself. Ever. Continue to fight for yourself, and your happiness, things can get better.

Nothing beats quality friendships, and if you’re lucky like me the real ones only get better with time. The love I have in my heart for this girl is 10/10❤️🔥🦋 We’ve been through hell and back, but the best part is even on our darkest days we’d find the humor in it, and laugh till our stomach hurt😂 Now we’re just doing our best to create peace, love, and happiness in our life… We definitely miss being certain parts of being elite gymnasts, because we both loved the sport so much🥺but it’s been fun becoming more and exploring who we are outside of it ☺️AND WE’RE REALLY OUT HERE DOING IT!!!!! So thankful to not be alone in that. Literally been friends since 13, and technically I think we’ve been married on Facebook for 10😂 You know how much I love you @alyraisman

Never thought I’d wear a 10pound Gucci dress on a mini trampoline but life’s been surprising me lately and I’m here for it

Here’s a few tips on how I like to deal with fear. Don’t you love the idea of leaving the fear be, and just focusing on finding hope first!!🥰
Obviously overcoming fear is more complex, and personal than that, and really shouldn’t be summed up with an Instagram reel — but I’m positive that adding more hope into your life cannot hurt. ❤️
Try out these tips, and let me know if they help ☺️ -Lots of love, your friend McKayla
Happy October 1st!!!! This year I’ve prayed for my family, friends, strangers, and the world — but I just realized I have never prayed for you guys before?!✨🍂 I’m so sorry!! (If it’s not for you I understand) I just know how powerful prayer has been in my own life and would like for others to experience the same. Wishing you a blessed October, full of your favorite things. Your friend McKayla
Happy World Mental Health Day! 💚
1. Being true to yourself is important to your health
2. Consistent suppression of self leads to depression
3. Strengthen your tolerance for rejection through self worth work
4. Become aware when you choose others acceptance over being honest and authentic
5. Do that less lol
Questions…
When do you feel the most you? How can you add more of that feeling into your life?
Who in your life embraces the fullness of you?
Who in your life do you accept and love? Don’t you deserve the same back?
