Yoga, walks, witches hats and even church – Christian for sure but I couldn’t tell you of which faith exactly…
But we were welcomed in and Lulu given a snack.
There was gospel music, fairy lights and prayers sent to those caught in the violence across Palestine and Israel.
Thoughts sent to all those desperately waiting for news from their loved ones.
Tears and cries for peace.
It was beautiful.
As beautiful as when we danced on the street with a group of Iranian women holding a vigil outside Amnesty International.
They thanked us for being with them and cried as we said we have a daughter – we can only imagine what it was like to wait for news from home but we felt their fear deeply. They insisted on us taking Iranian desserts home with us despite having limited hot food supplies to get them through the cold night. They stayed on that street for several weeks.
As beautiful as when Lulu danced with Russian children in a beach restaurant in Goa, days after the invasion in Ukraine. Their parents were desperately trying to work out how they would get back to their home in Germany with three young children with now invalid passports and visas.
They didn’t support the war.
It beggars belief that these events have occurred in such quick succession. That nobody seems to be being held accountable for these terrors. That we are watching such horrors unfold in 2023.
These little moments have changed nothing for those suffering, but my word have reminded us just how lucky we are.
They also remind us that most people are kind.
