My Sis Ava DuVernay. I love celebrating her. I also love celebrating the brilliance that comes out of her heart and mind in the form of films like Origin. Flashing back to celebrating her in the grandest, sweetest possible way last year thanks to the stunning generosity of Oprah and Ava both and the force of the beyond that moves through us all. Congratulations, dear Ava, and congratulations to the whole stunning team at @array! Here’s to vision, tenacity, rigor, and grace. (And to my Harvard students, I look forward to discussing When They See Us in class tomorrow!) ✨

My dear friend Chai Vasarhelyi and her hubby Jimmy Chin co-directed an incredible film about the power of tenacity, friendship, and following your dreams through the life story of Diana Nyad. Her crossing, swimming in open water from Cuba to Florida at 64. No cage. Many failed attempts. Just remarkable. I love the model of softness the film offers, too. Our flaws are how the light gets in. Those cracks are what let us see what lies beneath. I’ve watched it and I’ll watch it many more times as a touchstone if I ever give up too soon. Out on Netflix Nov. 3rd. Congrats Chai and Jimmy! Adore you so!!! 🤍🤍🤍 #nyad #diananyad photos by @emiliomadrid

The gift of failure. If I am going to speak about any topic, if I take time to do anything right now, with all going on in our world, I’m grateful that is the one. Yesterday was keynote based on my book The Rise at Gartner tech conference. 9,000 attendees online and in person. Such wonderful individuals. The next day was a keynote for the Teaching Learning Conference. Equally wonderful. Extremely grateful. Thank you to both organizations.

Can’t wait to see some of my dears also speaking at this great conference. February 24th, 2024 in Santa Clara!
To the Racial Equity and Economic Mobilith (REEM) Commission in South Carolina, thank you! What a gift it was to speak at Flour Field about the work of the arts for equities and the fight to tell the truth. In a stadium. The journey continues. It’s such a joy to come back from leave with more work to release into the world. More books out soon and back on tour.
