Sarah Lewis Instagram – The Kitchen Tables Series by Carrie Mae Weems is a landmark work of art for our generation. At the heart of the series is a question: how do we find our own power? It is a suite of works, twenty images with 14 text panels that do seem to be about relationships, women with lovers, mothers, and daughters. Yet the animating force is about the quest for sovereignty.
I adore Carrie Mae Weems. It’s such an honor to have written about her work over the years. It’s such a joy to have her in my life as a sister and friend.
