Awat Ratanapintha Instagram – Journey of becoming ‘Sorn’ (1) Since I knew I’d be portraying ‘Sorn’ in DOI BOY, I had about a month and a half for preparation. One of my big concerns was speaking Shan and adjusting my Thai accent to sound like Shan people speaking Thai. At that time, I watched videos of Shan YouTuber living in Chiang Mai every day. I tried to listen, speak, and understand which muscles to use when speaking with this accent. As I became more accustomed to it, I rehearsed Sorn’s dialogues, incorporating this accent as much as possible into my daily life. Huge thanks to the JAY CBL channel. For practicing the Shan language, special thanks to ‘P’Kai’ or ‘Yoon,’ my language coach. He recorded voice memos for every scene that I had to speak Shan. I would then dissect each word from his recordings, practicing continuously. Whenever P’Kai had time, he would call to help me rehearse and correct my pronunciation, from the preparation phase until the shooting day.
