Jerry Garcia Instagram – Before Jerry was a regular there, it was a hardware store. The Lion’s Share opened in the old “Highland Hardware” in San Anselmo in 1969 after the original spot in Sausalito burned down. Jerry played at the club with the Grateful Dead, the New Riders Of The Purple Sage, Merl Saunders, and Old & In The Way. 

Now, in addition to hosting Randy Newman’s first show and, perhaps more famously, Janis Joplin’s wake, the venue can also be known for the “Save Mother Earth” from January 19th, 1972 as featured on Heads & Tails: Volume 1. Swipe to the end to see what the building looks like today.
