Kirill Serebrennikov Instagram – I m absolutely fascinated by the Zurich Museum collection, featuring works by Arnold Böklin, Ferdinand Hodler, and other local artists. To my surprise, I also discovered an artist called Félix Vallatton with his bold, flettened colors and grotesquel vision of the every day life. His works were previously unknown to me. Together, the collection creates the impression of kind of Dadaist installation, reflecting the active Dadaist movement in Zurich. In the temporary exhibition hall, there is a display titled “Zeit”, yes its all about the idea of Time, created in partnership with renowned watch brands, and it also includes some remarkable artistic pieces. However, I was captivated by the less crowded main exhibition halls. And, of course, I was completely astonished by the unexpected encounter with Alberto Giacometti, whose work is beautifully preserved in Zurich. The artist’s archive and the Ernst Beyeler collection and fund, which acquired the entire Giacometti estate after his passing, are now housed in the Kunsthaus, and it’s truly remarkable. Beyeler developed a deep admiration for Giacometti’s sculptures and paintings, recognizing their profound artistic value. He began collecting Giacometti’s work in the 1950s and continued to do so throughout his career.
Beyeler actively promoted Giacometti’s work through his gallery, the Beyeler Foundation, and various international art exhibitions. His profound understanding and support for Giacometti’s art were instrumental in elevating Giacometti’s reputation as one of the most influential sculptor and artist.
Interestingly, they have Francis Bacon’s triptych displayed next to Giacometti’s work, highlighting a powerful connection between the two artists, expressing the traumas of the 20th century. | Posted on 23/Nov/2023 17:12:46
