Prentis shares their definitions and practices of somatics and embodiment, what design can learn from practices of embodiment, how they’ve come to define place and trace the interrelationship between their body and the landscape, from growing up on a prairie, to their 7 years living in Kāneʻohe Bay, Hawai’i, and settling in the lushness of North Carolina, “We are shaped by our experiences—the ones we categorize as positive and the ones we categorize as negative. We are shaped by other human beings. We are shaped by trees and plants, even if we don’t acknowledge that. And we are shaped by the absence of them as well.”
