A tenured Professor of Combat that used aggressive Muay-Thai striking, leg kicks that destroyed thigh meat and solid takedown defense, to educate his opponents about pain.  The Pitbull was one of the best to ever compete in the UFC’s Welterweight Division.⁣⁣⁣⁣

I met Thiago Alves during UFC 90 fight week, as he was preparing to fight Josh Koscheck and we hit it off. He invited me  to @americantopteam where I got to document his training and personal life and I got to experience a different side of him.  ⁣⁣⁣⁣

He had school boy charm, excellent taste in food and cars, his home was exquisitely appointed and it always seemed to smell like fresh mandarines. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

He was selfless with helping his teammates and he constantly helped them to get better, as he possessed a relentless dedication to training.⁣⁣⁣⁣

Crafting images of him was always a great time because his sense of humor shined as he doesn’t take himself too seriously. I’m happy he’s a coach now, because this generation of fighters can truly learn a lot, from one of the best. ⁣⁣⁣⁣

📸: We had very limited space to shoot, so I used a Profoto 2400w Acute power pack, a soft white Profoto beauty dish for the key light, positioned up high and on the wall behind him, I used a Profoto Pro head with a Zoom Reflector and taped on some heavy diffusion. I wanted this image to have a soft fashion lighting feel and the backlight to wrap him perfectly.⁣⁣⁣⁣
