My father COLONEL VIKRAM KUMAR JAITLY, (SM )was a war hero a brave officer of the Indian army. He was feared by the enemy and immensely revered by the troops he commanded but the side of him that I knew was that of a tender hearted kind and gentle giant with a heart of gold. He was an officer and a gentleman till the day he died. He was only 20 years old when he was severely wounded in 1971 war. Bullets ripped his leg and shrapnel’s pierced his entire body. He lived his whole life with those injuries and scars deep within his soul and never let them affect his role as soldier or a father. My father was the real deal, the real breed of men. The man eating tigers of the Kumaon regiment of the Indian army. My deepest prayers are to be born again as his daughter if there is a rebirth.
