Denée Benton Instagram – Solidarity won, Peggy Scott is back for @gildedagehbo Season 2 on @streamonmax, and is joining the chorus of freedom writers in the ancestral realm crying out for a #CEASEFIRENOW in Gaza. Peggy makes me sit with how many of my ancestors and family members cried out for freedom and mercy in the face of arrogant Presidents who callously shrugged “never” for generations. She invites me to sit with my own family’s reality. My parents, their parents, and back and back it goes worked the fields of this land well into the 1970s. My cousins and I are the first in our family line who didn’t spend our childhoods twisting undeveloped muscles to pick oranges and cherries and cotton, being cheated out of pennies to keep white men rich on their stolen Indigenous land. This isn’t “history” for so many of us, it’s our aunties who braided our hair with the same hands that bled in a Florida orange grove. All I can see is family when I see our Palest*nian siblings dragging their things through the street begging for a chance to survive Jim Crow and Christopher Columbus by another name. @joebiden I am so disgusted that you would play in our faces like this, but not surprised. The fact that you’re this flippant with your soul is truly astonishing to me. Because my people never stopped fighting for the dignity of our souls, I now have the nuanced honor of standing in a spotlight to collect grossly overdue payments on behalf of my bloodline. I am so humbled that for hundreds of years someone sensed that I was a child worth screaming in the street for. Let’s keep breathing deep and raising the vibration of the soul of this freedom cry, my Mema taught me that there’s a clandestine power in soul nourishment that can’t be controlled by the state.
