At the end of shooting season 2 of #ReginaldtheVampire I rented a van and headed North on Vancouver Island. (North Island as the locals call it). What I encountered: sprawling old growth forests, tree trunks thick and wrinkled with time, emerald/lime/chartreuse mosses, mountains pouring out fresh springs (though probably boil it before drinking), eco systems returning from near extinction (sea otters!). We saw black bear cubs, plenty of deer, eagles, even a mountain lion! We felt nature through our pores and she cradled us as her child, laying in our mothers lap. We also saw devastating logging in places it had absolutely zero business being. This however is a celebratory post 💞 Posted @withregram • @tjwatt WE DID IT!! The BC government has just launched a vital conservation financing mechanism to protect old-growth forests and other endangered ecosystems! This funding will support First Nations’ economic, capacity, stewardship, and management needs linked to protecting ecosystems. Without it, the wide-spread protection of the most endangered and contested ecosystems, such as those with the biggest trees and greatest timber values, would be largely impossible. The @ancientforestalliance and @endangeredecosystemsalliance have led the call for this critical measure since 2017 and are celebrating its arrival. We couldn’t have done it though without the thousands of supporters, like you, who have continually spoken up – thank you!! Premier @davidebybc has now delivered on one of his three big commitments (you can send him a “thank you” for implementing this conservation financing mechanism to save nature at [email protected]). His other major commitments include doubling the protected areas in BC from 15% now to 30% by 2030 and targeting protection for biodiverse areas, which we interpret to mean the potential development of ecosystem-based protection targets (which haven’t happened yet). We will continue working to ensure these commitments come to fruition. See @tjwatt for full media release 🙏
