Four kids, fall clothes, August weather! A comedy of errors. I’m so glad I didn’t make them all wear matching cardigans or something. They are very dirty and we all had fun! (Also, the toddler is not being rude. The kids are encouraged to climb the pumpkin pile.)

Mary Katharine Ham Instagram – This gal turned two! For those keeping count, that means we had two under two… for 9.5 months. And we’re still standing! A lot of the credit for that goes to Holly, who much like her father, has a GIANT personality and also loves a schedule. That means she sleeps. Hallelujah, can that girl sleep, from 6pm-7am, in the same room as her brother.

When we say “bedtime for baby?” after two episodes of “Bluey,” our girl marches herself up the stairs to get her zzzzs. “Bye, guys! Bye, guys! Bye, Guggy!” (this is either doggie or Garnet, we’re not sure which) She is a woman of few words.

She says “Dad” constantly, “wow” and “Scout” and “stop” and “don’t,” usually to her bro. She has a long-running joke where I ask her to say “Mama,” and she mouths it without actually saying anything and then laughs because, let’s face it, that’s funny. But she resorts to “Mama” when she’s very sad, which isn’t often.

She is good-natured and very physical. The other day, I told her to say “please,” and I would lift her over the couch, and she was stubborn about “please” and simply hoisted herself over the couch with a ridiculous display of brute upper body strength.

She is newly into books, but her brute strength makes her the first kid I’ve ever had capable of destroying board books. She might be the most problem-solving kid I’ve had. She untied, collapsed and removed the tent pole from her little play tent in the living room while I wasn’t looking the other day, then uncollapsed it to hold up in front of me. (Meanwhile, her brother is already saying “bottle” in an effort to defend himself against her when she steals his bottle, which is often).

Watching her play is a bit like watching the velociraptors test the fences. “Clever girl.” She loves to clean (also gets that from Dad), brings her own diapers for diaper changes and throws the dirty ones away. She’s just started doing “big hugs” and will hug you and sigh and pat you on the back. Sings along with “Daniel Tiger” and loves cheese, ham, and anything I’m eating.

She has made a lot of our lives possible the last 9 months by just being her and, boy, do we love her! Can’t wait to see her grow!
