Meaghan B. Murphy Instagram – 🚨NEW 🏡 PROJECT🚨 Sometimes you need to fix 🛠️something that isn’t broken just because it no longer works FOR YOU. That was the case with this sitting room. I loved the original design, but in 5 years NO ONE actually EVER sat in the sitting room. So, here’s what we did to change that because with 3 kids and a dog we need to eek out every ounce of living space in our home: 🪑 First up, more functional furniture. We said goodbye to my oversized family heirloom chair (luckily Nana was excited to put it in her bedroom) and banished the stuffy (but pretty!) bench to my office. I saw these navy @potterybarn swivel chairs at my girlfriend’s house and ordered them immediately. I have grown to appreciate the entertainment value of a swivel. Then I was at a loss, so I called in @thehavenly for a little design hand-holding. Havenly helped me land on this @arhaus table + ottomans & approved my striped @potterybarnkids rug choice (I needed the validation). WOWZA! Suddenly this space became a cozy spot for morning ☕️ after-dinner 🫖 and unwinding w/ a 🍷 where I can stare at my guitar 🎸 and the lyrics to Blackbird 🐦‍⬛ and manifest playing it someday. I think lessons would help. LOL The other big change here was brightening up the bookcases with a fresh coat of white. 🎨 I think it makes my book 📕 ⚡️& beloved knickknacks pop. Leave it to @shadyladycolors and @amazingpaintingnj to make the magic 🪄 happen. We also added battery-operated book lights from @lampsplus that make me endlessly happy at night. 💡 Finally, @ellaallure killed it with the Dempsey-friendly performance fabric cushion in just the right orange-y shade + fun patterned pillows.
