The past two and a half weeks have been intense, to put it mildly.
I too am deeply devastated by the current events.
Devastated for the lives lost but also devastated by the amount of hate than I’ve witnessed in comments on social media and in real life.
More than ever I’ve come to realise that in the current climate taking “sides” has been widely popular. I’ve been noticing this shift in many areas intensifying since the pandemic.
I’ve had very beautiful conversations with people who have been supporting the idea of taking sides by simply asking questions and exchanging points of view.
I believe it’s important to remember that it is ok to have different opinions. I believe it’s not ok though to spread hate, to loose our humanity.
I will for the time being refrain from commenting on the current political events on social media. I’ll take the time though to continue to speak with people whose comments trigger me. It’s uncomfortable but rewarding.
