Norah Casey Instagram – Venturing further inland towards the mountains we discovered a beautiful family run sustainable farm with a restaurant and rooms to lay your head down. It’s wonderfully remote, in a valley of flowers, lemon trees and streams. If you want a slower pace then Quinta do Freixo is a great spot for a few days or a long leisurely lunch. Luis, one of three brothers who run this family business (5th generation) was our guide for a ramble through the organic farm – most of what you eat comes from the land and sustainability is at the heart of the enterprise. There is also a very cute dog, pumpkins tons of Carob trees and even tree strawberries – which are used to make a pretty lethal firewater called Medronhos Brandy – nicer at night than the following morning.
