Thank you for the love tonight in this stunning sweet Charleston for the Vision & Justice talk for the Gibbs 2023 Distinguished Lecture series.
 
The last time I was in the theater was in 2016 to celebrate a work I had selected for the Spoleto Festival to honor the Emanuel 9: the commission of Carrie Mae Weems’s magisterial work, Grace Notes: Reflections for Now.
 
Charleston has a profound place in my heart for all that its history has inspired. Thank you for allowing me to come back and feel like I have in this city another home.
