Sophia Bush Instagram – On Friday our @uscannenberg family gathered on campus to celebrate the life of our dearly missed friend, mentor, and teacher, Professor Christopher H. Smith. I am immensely grateful to have been given the honor of speaking — alongside family, friends, and colleagues — about his legacy. Studying with Professor Smith altered the course of my education and my life. To share stories of his mentorship, kindness, and the ways he raised me to be an activist before I understood my passions and calling? The way that he showed me the inextricable, cultural link between art and resistance? The way he encouraged me, and so many students who passed through his classroom, to challenge norms and examine who has seats at the tables of power? It was breathtaking to hear so many people speak about his profound impact. His inimitable guidance. He managed to do this for each and every one of us. He is, and always will be, supremely missed. We are all so lucky to have known and loved him. And to his wife Salaam, and his children Asa and Nina, thank you for sharing him with us all these years. We love you.
