Susie Castillo Instagram – Castle #3 on our UK tour: Blenheim Palace
Blenheim was so gorgeous and the estate was so sprawling that we made this a two-day visit! They also allowed indoor photography so we were able to capture the stunning interior architecture/design, YAY! We were lucky that the palace had just reopened after getting decked out for the holidays, which made the visit extra special.
Fun Facts:
1. Blenheim Palace is the home where Winston Churchill was born when his parents came for a visit in 1874.
2. An American woman, Consuelo Vanderbilt, and her large dowry upon marrying Charles Spencer Churchill (9th Duke of Marlborough), saved Blenheim Palace from ruin as he was running out of money. Duchess Consuelo was forced to marry the Duke by her mom who apparently locked her in her room for three days until she agreed to marry the Duke. She gave birth to two heirs, divorced the Duke after a couple of decades, and finally married the love of her life. Duchess Consuelo is also an ancestor of Anderson Cooper (his mother was a Vanderbilt).
3. The wooden floors in the large library are original!!!
