Here’s a quick demonstration of pole probing. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s a quick and practical observation to add to the data you should be gathering. Pole probing can help track the depth of a crust as wind loading changes across the landscape and highlight the location or depth of a less resistant layer. Using a pole with a streamlined grip or end cap aids in pushing it through and noticing inconsistencies.
