Jim Baird Instagram – This past Oct., @heatherbairdoutdoors @ted.baird @torigoesoutside and I hauled an extension ladder around in the bush to access some big specimens of Chaga that were growing way up in the birch trees that the fungus calls home. We made sure not to cut it all off, leaving some on the tree so that it will regrow. Chaga is a medicinal mushroom that makes a good tea, particularly when a little honey or maple syrup is added. We finally got around to processing it yesterday by cutting it into small chunks with my Commercial Series Butcher Knife by @coldsteelknives and then blasting it up into powder with a coffee grinder. We still have a lot more to process yet. To make tea out of it, it’s best to add the powdered Chaga it to a loose leaf tea bag and let it steep in hot water.
