“Paul Simon’s concert in Central Park last night was one of those collective ceremonial events, like the Super Bowl or election nights in the past: Everyone was bound together electronically even if they were not there in person. A lot of people were there in person, though, clapping and swaying and singing in almost perfect unison — after all, some of them had practiced these songs for decades.”
