O Rei utilizou esse artifício e marcou o gol, mas o árbitro Aurélio Bossolino anulou a jogada e assinalou falta contra o Santos. A Fifa, na época, condenou a atitude do árbitro, e a manobra passou a ser permitida. Segundo Pelé, ele teria copiado a ideia do meia Didi.
