So hard to tell…..to be 12 and see the real time effect of this phenomenon AS is was happening. But it hits different when you look at its casualties (quantity enters the conversation, video truly kills the radio star, BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER, Achievements…..& of course the most important casualty of the post Thriller effect was MJ himself, a perfectionist whose EVERY creative move hereafter must be on the level of the second coming….an event! the best! ———-I mean we all had to follow suit——and it’s hard to tell if black music culture suffered as a result. I mean on one hand, there will never be an event like this in my lifetime. My music knowledge based on the songs I had to live through and learn while waiting for a Thriller song to come on radio or MTV is priceless…but I still wonder how different life woulda been if it just sold a fair amount of records like….say 14 million. 11/30/82
