And now here is @rikrankin’s story:
These two shots, ‘From Dusk’ and ‘Medusa’, were taken at First Beach in La Push, Washington on the Leica M11 Monochrom camera, which only shoots in black-and-white. It gives these shots a really great sense of drama and kind of a timeless quality. I also have them in colour and they look vastly different in terms of mood and effect. Colour can be a distraction. And shapes are more clearly revealed in black-and-white.

They are meant to be paired, as the horizon line matches up and each shows one-half of the beach. They naturally recall the Twilight Trilogy where that beach is featured.

They were shot on one of the first stops of a West Coast photography tour through Washington, Oregon and California which ended in Palm Springs (see more of the photos from that trip in the VIBE Collection). First Beach in La Push is part of the Olympic National Park and is a Native American reserve managed by the Quileute Tribe that has lived there for thousands of years.

From the Desk of Maureen, Sales Manager:
The Fine Art prints for these shots are printed on Fuji Photo Rag (matt finish, smooth texture). Black-and-white photos printed on that paper have a soft look (owing to a comparatively lower D-Max value and also the matt finish), which enhances the timeless quality already present in the shot. As a first time viewer, not knowing anything about them, one might not be quite certain of the year in which they were taken. I feel the same about ‘The Chief’.
