And now here’s @rikrankin on ‘Vrikshasana’:
I deliberately made that a bit abstract to sort of encourage people to really look at a photograph. To really investigate what’s going on.
When we had the exhibit, it kind of caught a couple people out that were talking about it. I was like, Have you actually looked at it? And they were like, Yeah, yeah. And I was like, What’s odd about it?
One or two maybe were able to tell me, but most people missed the fact that there’s a tree missing. There’s just a black empty void in the shape of a tree. So it has an abstract element to it.
That was shot in Bali, Indonesia. The only one that wasn’t shot in the States in the Signature Collection. I also plan to put it up on my wall, because it’s got a real peace about it.
I also love the horizontal lines. If you look really closely, there’s a very soft gradient to it of 3 different areas: you have an infinity pool in the foreground, the ocean in the middle, and the sky in the background. It’s very soft, very subtle; you have to look really closely.
The symmetry across that shot, with all trees at a similar height, is also really great and contributes to the peaceful feeling. It’s called ‘Vrikshasana’ after the yoga move, The Tree Pose.
And From the Desk of Maureen, Sales Manager:
What I really love about the Fine Art print for this photo is the very pale blue border that he’s done. I will also add that version to the post. The blue border elevates the entire photo and makes the water look silvery.
It’s also another perfect example of how the Fine Art paper plus the Giclée method of inkjet printing creates a very saturated and dimensional look. The tree bark looks rough and tactile. And the blackness of the negative space of the missing tree is greatly enhanced so that it dramatically sinks into the paper. | Posted on 10/Dec/2023 03:00:30
