And now, here’s @rikrankin with the story of ‘Tetris’:
The composition in this shot is almost a 180 geometrical negative space. It’s a profile shot of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. A famous landmark, nearly 1,000 metres high of solid granite, it appeals to free climbers who are brave enough to attempt it.
The sky wasn’t actually far off that colour that day. It was completely blue, with no clouds. No drama going on. And so I was inspired by the apparent retro feel. It called to mind the vintage tourism posters with a comic book look. That was the vibe I was going for anyway.
As a big print, nicely framed on the wall, it is a gorgeous piece of art simply because of its colour and shape. It has that duality about it, beyond what the subject actually is.
