Joyful carol service last night to raise money for @horatiosgarden – the charity that creates breathtakingly beautiful hospital gardens for patients with spinal injuries. These gardens are an oasis of calm and beauty for patients who might otherwise be on their backs in bed for up to a year. Beds can be wheeled out and family can come to visit. The gardens give space for patients to come to terms with their life-changing injuries. I read ‘There Must be Honesty in kindness’ by Augustine J. Bowe. It’s worth going to Kew Gardens for the utterly magical Christmas walk, if only to get your picture sorted for your Xmas card. Meanwhile, my friend Lisa got stuck half way down the helter skelter, which involved a tense rescue involving the entire RAF. See my twitter account for details. Thank you especially to the gentleman who seemed to do the whole call running around on his phone shouting ‘where’s the clue!’ I didn’t ask what he was wearing but possibly Lycra. National Illustration Day. Who knew. This was a jumpsuit prototype by designer Liz de Costa around 1988. She was possibly on the wacky backy when she did my leg measurements but the shoulder pads are excellent!
Christmas at Kew was magical last night. By the time we’d walked for an hour or so past lakes with dazzling dancing reflections and trees saturated with colour, not to mention a quick go on a helter skelter which my friend Lisa got stuck on and she practically had to be airlifted off, with Alex Jones and her lovely children wondering anxiously what was going on, I thought someone had spiked the mulled wine…. New podcast with @mrwill_lyons . First episode is Croatia. I’ve been twice. The first was in the 90s to rebuild a school blitzed in the Homeland War #ChallengeAnneka. We had snipers trained on us from the hills, we had to be protected by the UN. Next time 20 years later I took my kids on an idyllic sailing holiday round the islands. I still managed to find drama. I ended up in A &E after a motor bike accident and then got arrested at the airport when security found a Kalashnikov bullet in my handbag. Long story. Told over a glass of wine! Or three.
