In 2011, Sachin Tendulkar, known as the ‘Master Blaster’ in cricket, faced a controversy with the IT department for income earned during AYs – 2001-02, 2003-04 and 2004-05. The issue arose when he claimed a tax deduction of Rs 5.92 crores on his income earned from foreign companies.
