Celina Jaitly Instagram – 1971 BATTLE OF BHADURIA #VijayDivas My late father Colonel VK Jaitly ( SM) narrated: “As I lay in a pool of my blood for 72 hours before evacuation, around me was a field of death. Many of my brothers lay moaning in excruciating agony, ripped into pieces. Even though my whole body was full of sharpnels and leg ripped by bullets my own injuries seemed futile. I lay crying seeing my brothers moan in agony as I crept to a critically injured soldier and administered him the last of my pain killer. The only thing common among all of us who lay dying on the battlefield was the word “Ma”. In that pain, in that last dying breath “Ma” was the only word that seemed to give us comfort. “Ma” the one who gave us birth is what remained on our lips as we died.. as we succumbed to valour.” Today on Vijay Divas, I remember my late and beloved father COLONEL VK JAITLY ( SM), 17 KUMAON, commissioned with in 1970 with SS-9 (Gadar) Course. My father was critically wounded with severe bullet & shrapnel injuries aged only 21. He survived but with severe life long injuries and went on to serve in the Army with great pride and honour and also eventually also commanded 16 Kumaon. He received two wound medals and a Sena medal. He always said Bhaduria was a very bloody battle and the casualties were unbelievable. Thanks to the sacrifices our brave men Bhaduria and Bangladesh was liberated. December 16th, marks India’s historic victory in the 1971 war, leading to the creation of Bangladesh. The conflict, lasting 13 days, culminated in the surrender of Pakistan’s eastern command. Rarely is the God given opportunity to be born as a daughter of a true hero, a life saver, a man of steel with a heart of gold.
