To make acceptance and tolerance a virtue. He saw the power and the beauty of our differences and confronted our biases with unapologetic directness. Racism, sexism. and bigotry was revealed in his stories, all the while making us laugh. He forced us to look inward and mine for our truths, and hold ourselves accountable. And slowly, magically, he shifted the world on its axis. Norman was warm, familial, a mensch; excited about his work, still planning his next TV show. He was loved by all. He saw us. He loved us. And he celebrated what is true in all of us. There will never be another Norman Lear, but how lucky are we that there was one.
