Denée Benton Instagram – ‼️Content warning: 5th slide contains images of child abuse. . . Thinking a lot about divestment, where I feel capable, and where I feel paralyzed. How deeply we all have to swim in hypocrisy. Sometimes by choice, by ignorance, or abusive force (hello war tax). Noticing how much perfectionism aids my paralysis, how boycotting McDonald’s feels easy for my ego bc I don’t experience food scarcity, but thinking of changing the ways smartphones and electric cars are made can feel so vast that it leaves me with a defeated “but how?!?!”impossible!” 🇨🇩 Then I remember that every single one of these resources can be sourced without child labor, that every single community that’s ever been colonized could have been offered a FAIR trade deal instead of a slaughtered culture, and that this is an issue of who pr*paganda taught us to see as human vs commodity. I remember emergent strategy and how everybody doesn’t have to do everything for something important to get done. 🇵🇸 This #boycottblackfriday call by @dossevia is one of the mini actions that I’m joining to add to the many of all of us. Maybe it’s in your window of tolerance to join me? Maybe your action centers are elsewhere. Either way, I’m learning and loving the energy of not waiting for some “official” entity to announce that we’re allowed to start setting our own limits on how we participate in the bullsh*t. I’m committing to keep up the practice of returning perfectionism back to the principals of colonization that it came from and instead say yes to experimentation, possibility, and course correction again and again, as ritual, as often as I have to. #ceasefirenow #nonewtech #freecongo #emergentstrategy
