Emma Heming Instagram – Their history is so layered and complicated as I am sure we will see in the comments below. I will never sit here as if I can grasp a single ounce of it. I have not lived a second of it. I’m a girl who grew up between Tottenham and Costa Mesa and every where in between. My maternal side is Muslim and paternal Protestant, neither parents practicing. But I am human having a very human response. I will not be desensitized to this tragic news.

Thank you @serene_cicora for finding the wording in this post that really spoke to me.
Emma Heming Instagram – @kristinrunning turned her grief, helplessness and sadness into some very profound and impactful work within the FTD space. Her husband Lee was diagnosed with FTD at the age of 35. To honor him and her family, she started the Holloway Summit, an event designed to bring together the world’s leading FTD experts each year to work collaboratively on producing the next big scientific breakthrough alongside @theaftd. This year’s focus was on FTD biomarkers.
I was a fly on the wall in this conference and I will admit my brain is a bit broken since the discussions were extremely scientific and way over my head. But my take away is a very positive one. I got to see scientists, researchers, clinicians— some of the brightest minds within the FTD community geeking out over what they were learning and sharing with others in the room. And I was beaming from the sidelines as I could feel their enthusiasm, pride and care for their work. They said “we aren’t crawling anymore but starting to walk” and at their pace of discovery, which is moving at a remarkable rate, my hope is they will be sprinting soon.
I want to relay to you that they feel our sense of urgency and rest assure they are working so hard to #endFTD.
I’m so proud and thankful to Kristin Holloway for the work she has set out to do and is accomplishing already. I’m leaving the Holloway Summit inspired (and actually a little smarter than when I arrived!) Thank you to @theaftd and to Susan Dickinson for sitting next to me and breaking down the scientific jargon into layman’s terms 🩵
