Fabienne Colas Instagram – Today, we mourn the passing of award-winning Canadian filmmaker Charles Officer.

I came to know Charles in 2010 when we screened his film, Mighty Jerome, at the Montreal Intl Black Film Festival. When launching the Toronto Black Film Festival in 2013, I asked him for support, and he has been there with us every since. Charles embodies true support and solidarity within the film & TV industry. He had always created time to support up and coming Black talent.

We sherish every moment Charles has spent with us at the Toronto Black Film Festival since its inception in 2013. Over the years, he has generously shared his knowledge with our emerging filmmakers through workshops, masterclasses, panel discussions, and one-one-sessions at several of our Black Film Festivals around the country

Charles was an award-winning filmmaker, producer, writer, performer, and also a former hockey player. He has left us incredible and powerful Canadian films and series such as MIGHTY JEROME, AKILLA’S ESCAPE, THE PORTER, CORONER, and many more.

We, at the Fabienne Colas Foundation, the Toronto Black Film Festival and the Black Film Festival network, send our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

The Canadian film & TV industry has suffered a tremendous loss today. We will miss Charles greatly.

Rest in power, brother!
