As is so often the case when it comes to climate disasters, the burden of the crisis of extreme heat disproportionately falls on women.
Globally, women represent 80 percent of climate refugees. When women are displaced, they are at increased risk of violence, human trafficking, and stalled education and employment opportunities. They are also more likely to die in natural disasters. Millions also risk losing access to contraception and the bodily and economic freedom it provides.
All of that is why the @ClintonGlobal Initiative and the @AtlanticCouncil have partnered with the Self Employed Women’s Association to create a Climate Resilience Fund.
Women, especially women in the global south, are rarely given the credit they deserve as essential drivers of change.
