Jay Anstey Instagram – Bought a punnet of kumquats that ended up being sour so I got creative and tried to make homemade preserve for the first time..
So introducing “Homemade Kumquat Preserve”
What a success!
A simple recipe using the seeds as a natural pectin.

RECIPE:

1 Punnet Kumquats
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cinnamon Stick
3 Cups Water

1. Slice kumquats thinly and de-seed them as you go, adding them to a separate bowl.
2. Add the water and sliced kumquats to a pot and place the seeds in a cheesecloth and drop it into the bowl; submerging them in the water.
3. Place in the fridge for 3-4 hours
4. Remove and scrape the cheesecloth of its natural pectin into the pot (it’s a jelly substance the seeds emit)
5. Put the pot on the stove, add the sugar and cinnamon stick and bring to a simmer for 35-45 minutes stirring as you go
6. Add some more water if needed.
7. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes – it should be jam consistency now.
8. Pour into container 🫙 And Enjoy!
