Norman Lear, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 101, was one of the most successful and prolific TV producers and writers of all time. One of his hit shows, “All in the Family”, held the No. 1 spot from 1971 to 1976 in the Nielsen Ratings, and it was called the fourth-greatest TV show of all time by TV Guide. It earned 22 Emmy Awards, including four for best comedy series. Like most of Lear’s shows, the episode themes were about racism, civil rights, class struggles, homophobia, women’s liberation and more and it challenged the way Americans viewed each other and the world around them.
