Per @nytimes reporting, the jury awarded Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss a combined $75 million in punitive damages. It also ordered Mr. Giuliani to pay compensatory damages of $16.2 million to Ms. Freeman and $16.9 million to Ms. Moss, as well as $20 million to each of them for emotional suffering. Over hours of emotional testimony, Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss described how their lives had been completely upended after Dec. 3, 2020, when Mr. Giuliani first suggested that they had engaged in election fraud to tilt the result against Mr. Trump in Georgia, a critical swing state. The women, who are Black and are mother and daughter, were soon flooded with expletive-laden phone calls and messages, threats and racist attacks, they testified. People said they should be hanged for treason or lynched; others told them they fantasized about hearing the sound of their necks snapping. Mr. Giuliani did not testify at the trial. His lawyer, Joseph Sibley IV, told the jury that his client, the former New York mayor and federal prosecutor, should not be held responsible for abuse directed to Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss by others.

Katie Couric Instagram – I had the privilege of listening to one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces of music ever written at the @nypianosociety last night. John Williams wrote the theme for Schindler’s List 30 years ago. It was played exquisitely by @zuillbailey on a cello that was built in 1693! The incredible pianist is @natashaparemski It felt like the sorrow of the world was emanating from the hands of these gifted artists. Thank you @jakecohen for inviting Molner and me to feast on your delicious food and @alexhshapiro for letting us be transported by such beautiful music. #nypianosociety
Katie Couric Instagram – Ellie, Carrie and I spent five days in the @turksandcaicos which has become a holiday tradition for us. This year was made even more special because of @potcakeplacek9rescue which takes in stray puppies and dogs and allows visitors to the island to walk them for a couple of hours in the morning. We fell in love with this puppy named ZZ. He came into the shelter in very bad condition—three of his siblings were lost, so the volunteers named the three survivors after BEYONCE—BB, JJ and ZZ. We thought about bringing ZZ home but we have so much travel planned we ultimately decided against it. Jane Parker-Rauw wrote us the sweetest email. “We get a lot of lovely families through our doors just like yours who want to help and quite often that help doesn’t come in adopting a dog. People can help in so many other ways.” Jane said her goal is to control the population through spay/neuter programs, adoption and education. She goes to schools in her “spare time” and talks about animal welfare. “There is no shelter here in The Turks and Caicos Islands and so all of these pups and dogs are looked after in volunteer homes. We keep them until they get adopted. No exceptions.” She went on to say, “We are 100% financed by donations, be it through financial donations to pay the huge dog food bills, vet bills and to keep the lights on, or by bringing down donations in the way of donated vet supplies, toys, puppy formula, pee pee pads, towels and even newspapers to line the crates.
I used to get excited about a man bringing me flowers.. Now it’s pee pee pads and newspapers. How times change!”
I wanted to take a moment to thank Jane and all the volunteers at Potcake Place (like Abby who was so nice!) for everything they do to help the animals on @turksandcaicos_official. “Nobody can do everything,” Jane wrote, “but everyone can do something.” I will be sending a donation. If you’re in the Turks, stop by and give these puppies a hug and a walk! 🐶 🐕 ❤️ Turks And Caicos
