Kylie Padilla Instagram – The most powerful poem I’ve written so far. For all the mothers, women who have passed the “age limit”, the women that the media neglects, the women who feel unseen and silenced. This one is for you.
WOMAN
Why would I be ashamed of my body?
I have nothing to hide
I’m no longer an image of purity
I’ve been used and I’ve been had
I am no longer what you consider
whole with virginity
I am no longer suited for that pretty
white dress
So why pretend to be modest?
I am woman and I am wild
I always have been
I just needed to make you believe
I tamed the roaring beast
Cause I was taught to be the princess
in all the fairytales
But I have bore children and fed them
with my breast
And once you share blood
You learn how to growl and how to protect
I claim the ugly and the gritty
I claim the passion in my femininity
I love pleasure and I love my body
I love making love like it is poetry
I love how I sag and the tiger marks
that scar me
That give a whole new meaning to what
it is to be pretty
I may not be the image of youth
But I have gained wisdom and ingenuity
Maybe you like when girls are meek
and malleable and suited to your liking
But I love women with teeth
Who own their whole being
Who don’t give a f*** what the
world sees
Why would I be ashamed of my body tell me?
After all it has always belonged to me
After everything the whole world has told me
a woman should be
I stand here raw, naked and bleeding
As wild and as free as I was born
I have run through the depths of hell to
get to this heaven
Baby, I am a whole different class of
what it means to be woman
I’m in the league of warriors and witches
Bound and broken and covered in stitches
I have been burned and cursed
And tortured to the state of insanity
But I am woman and I am mother
I am the essence of mother earth
I am woman and this, THIS IS MY POWER.
