I had to put out this kind of video from Joram’s Indian Premiere at the @mumbaifilmfestival especially for all the lovely compliments I had received for the look. When I want to wear a saree, the blouse becomes the deciding factor for me to pick it. Therefore while I was designing this saree I wanted to collaborate with someone who I could trust with their capabilities for customisation. I couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator than @jotishacouture based in Dwarka in Delhi. This venture has been started by Shalu Dudeja who is passionate enough to incorporate a nagging collaborator such as me. He is trying to escape the grasp of the urban police on one hand and rural politicians and Maoist rebels on the other. The film features women in key roles: Smita Tambe Dwivedi plays ‘Phulo Karma’, a bereaved mother seeking ruthless vengeance; Nimmy Raphel plays the Maoist rebel chief; and Megha Mathur plays the role of Phulo Karma’s ever-present, tech-savvy sidekick.
