Nandita Das Instagram – This series is called Exodus 2020 and it is part of the large Retrospective show at the National Gallery of Modern Art, till the 7th Jan. 20024, from 11 am- 6 pm everyday, except Mondays. This is what my father, the artist, Jatin Das had to say about the series: “Like everyone else, I was stuck at home during the Covid lockdown. All that I saw on TV and newspapers was deeply disturbing. I was restless, so I began painting with what I had – 200 odd acid-free paper, some ink pots and lots of brushes. Thousands of migrant workers walking barefoot, some on cycles, others atop buses, under the scorching sun, without food and water, their belongings tucked under their arms or on their heads; men and women carrying their children on their shoulders, in their tired arms, in baskets, walking quietly, non-stop.
