The Zone of Interest will be an important film for a very long time if there’s any hope for us. Just wow and something else entirely. The creation of a new cinematic system (the director’s words more or less) so as not to romanticize the horror of events, and it is effective beyond belief. The performances are chillingly human. The sound design is its own movie running parallel to the picture story. (As Glazer said during q & a, there are, in essence, two movies happening at once – the sound and the image.) The contrast between them…
The editing. The score. The ending. The subtle brilliance of it all. Totally floored.
