Many bujjibabu’s are confused in knowing the right way to build muscle. Few people think that training with heavier weights and low repetition helps them and others think training with lower weights and high reps will do the job.
The fact is, intensity of your training matter when you are trying to build strength and muscle. The main funda is to “train near to failure”. This means, if your failure rep for a certain weight is 10, then you will have to train till 8-9 reps, which will help in activating all the muscle fibres with motor unit activation and inturn boost the muscle growth. Hence, you can either take lower weights or higher weights, but training near to failure is the key!!
Now to understand it better you can work around all the rep ranges by dividing compound movements with heavier weight and lower reps and isolation with lighter weights and higher reps.
But either way muscle can be built by “training near to failure”
