From Washington Heights (EL SUPER), to the barrio of East Harlem (CROSSOVER DREAMS, EL CANTANTE), to Harlem (SUGAR HILL) and the Lower East Side, aka “Loisaida” (PIÑERO), Ichaso captured the vitality of his adopted city – and the excitement of its Latin music explosion – in films that amplified the acting careers of Rubén Blades, Marc Anthony, Elizabeth Peña, Benjamin Bratt, and more.
Join us opening night for Ichaso’s 1979 debut EL SUPER, with producer/co-screenwriter Manuel Arce and CNN en Español commentator Mari Rodriguez Ichaso, devoted sister of Leon Ichaso, in person at Friday’s 7:00 show! Arce will also intro the Rubén Blades-starring salsa film CROSSOVER DREAMS on Sat, 1/6 at 4:45. And don’t miss star Benjamin Bratt in-person at the 6:20 screening of PIÑERO on Sunday, 1/7, Ichaso’s 2001 portrait of the celebrated Nuyorican poet, Miguel Piñero.
