Danny Robertshaw Instagram – RUSTY arrived at Danny & Ron’s Rescue in October 2016 after a harrowing rescue on the Florida Turnpike. A good samaritan spotted him stuck between the concrete barriers dividing the highway and unable to cross in either direction. It is a testament to his “cool guy” demeanor that he remained calm enough to accept a stranger’s help to safety. In 2016, we guessed his age to be about 5 years old. This photo was taken upon his arrival at Danny & Ron’s Rescue, all bright-eyed and curious. At first, he was a bit persnickety about being around other dogs and was always a flight risk. So we took our time trying to find him the right home. Meanwhile, he remained at The Doghouse, learned to love (most) other dogs, and wormed his way into our hearts. 7 years later, he was still a part of our Doghouse crew. Rusty let us know he’d found his home. Rusty seemed to be aging quickly, slowing down, and we could see he was in pain, which we had been treating with pain meds. But today, he felt particularly punky, so we took him for another checkup with “Dr. Matt” at Camden Veterinary Hospital. An MRI confirmed our worst suspicion: he was riddled with cancerous tumors. We made the heartwrenching decision to put him at ease, surrounded by some of his favorite Danny & Ron’s Rescue staff members. Rest in Peace, sweet boy.
