New video up! (Link in bio.). In this one, @torigoesoutside and I continue down Northern BC’s Stikine River towards Alaska with our family. We camp in a couple nice places where we need to put our tarp to good use because of the rain. Breaking camp in the morning takes a lot more time with kids as they need to be fed and dressed, (you can see me putting on Wesley’s wet suit on in one of the pics here). Both adults can’t really work at camp tasks at the same time because one of us needs to keep a watchful eye on our son Hudson who likes to go for hikes (with or without us!).
Things get more challenging when we’re traveling down river and the rain really picks up…it just won’t let up for hours and hours on end and we’re soaked. Come evening, we begin searching for a cabin that should be close by. Our river notes are 30 years old so we don’t really know if it’s even there anymore. Soaked to the bone, at this point we’d be very grateful for a place to get warm and dry out tons of wet cloths. Do we find it?

(Full vid. linked in bio.) Morning at camp on Day 3 was a little more interesting than usual with something hanging out in the woods near by. After loading the canoe while our son Hudson belted out the toddler anthem Jonny Jonny, we continued our journey down the mighty Stikine River towards Alaska. We were looking to make up for lost time but heavy rain and wind slowed us down. We had to again make a sturdy tarp rig at camp to escape the downpour that evening. In the shelter of the tarp that night, my wife @torigoesoutside cooked up a the best camping meal ever which really hit the spot. Watch the full video through the link in my bio.

New video up! Click the link in my bio to watch the latest instalment of my current YouTube film series called “Into Alaska” which follows my family’s canoe trip down the Stikine River.
In this video, @torigoesoutside and I search for a trapper’s cabin where we can dry out some of the kid’s cloths as it had been raining for hours and hours on end.
We then continue (in the driving rain) to Great Glacier where we portage into the glacier’s frigid outwash lake where we find dozens of surreal-looking floating icebergs that had calved off the glacier.
It was back on day-3 when the weather was sunnier that I shared this little run through on safety and protection in bear country. The weapon of choice here is a 12 Gauge Remington 870.

I was recently going through some old pics and scanning them for a big documentary I’m putting together (stay tuned) and wanted to share a few from this memorable adventure. It was 2006 when I headed off to paddle Côte Nord Québec’s Moisie River. Starting from Labrador, my brother @ted.baird along with buddies @armin_charmin and @adventure_fitt_akasha planned to canoe 100kms of headwater lakes before taking on the advanced-level whitewater of the Moisie which we’d follow all the way to the St. Lawrence. On this trip, we really had to step up our whitewater canoeing game. I lived obviously or else, who would be typing this? More on this adventure coming up on my YouTube channel.

(Check out the full film covering the following through the link in my bio): It had been raining for nearly 24 hours straight, soaked after traveling about 30kms down the remote, Stikine River by canoe, we were searching for a cabin where we hoped to get out of the rain and dry out the kid’s clothes. Our river notes were over 30 years old so, we didn’t know if the cabin was even still there. After we almost gave up the search, we found it. It was blocked by thick vegetation and nestled into a stand of massive Sitka Spruce trees. We enjoyed a delicious meal and the warmth of the cabin before we pushed off the next morning….the rain hadn’t let up at all through the night. We traveled a good distance down river that day despite the relentless rain and we got to the Great Glacier area. The following day was me and my wife @torigoesoutside ‘s wedding anniversary and we celebrated with pancakes for breakfast and then portaged a good distance into the glacier’s outwash lake where we were met with the surreal site of many beautiful icebergs that had calved off the glacier. Stay tuned for the following episode where we we’ve out canoe through the amazing ice formations.
